Gratitude

How many times a day do you say “Thank you”? Quite a lot, I would imagine, when someone opens a door for you, moves out of the way to let you pass by or makes a cup of tea for you. After all, it’s good manners, isn’t it? However, some of the time we say it without thinking and sometimes we forget to say it at all. Our lives can be so hectic that we sometimes forget the important things like this. We are so busy that we can forget to flow energy to the nice things that happen to us, yet we spend hours concentrating on the state of the world and our bank accounts. It is no wonder that few of us feel joy.

Being mindful of such things is an essential part of our evolution. Eastern philosophers and Buddhists have been pointing out its merits for centuries, yet here in the West we are just too busy. While we are creating our new lives, we must make time for the things that are really important, like being thankful. We could set ourselves a mental alarm clock so that, when someone does something nice for us, we stop what we are doing and acknowledge it. It is highly likely that when we moan that no-one cares about us, we have missed a lot of proof that the opposite is actually true.

While I was writing the last paragraph, my youngest son kept coming into the room. When I eventually stopped typing and acknowledged his presence, he gave me a big hug and told me that he loved me. I could have continued to type; after all, writing this book was important to me. But if I had, I would have missed the opportunity to flow energy to the love that my son and I share, to help it grow and to attract other similar vibrations. I was aware again that I am loved and that I have a fantastic family. At this moment it was easy to see what is really important and how fortunate I am. Was the universe acting right on cue to prove a point, as always? Need I ask?

So we must try to be mindful and say “Thank you” like we mean it. Our vibration will lift and the other person’s will soar, because it is always extremely nice to be appreciated. Energy will flow to the good things in our lives and, more importantly, we will be aware of the process. We must also not forget to include the universe when we give thanks, particularly as our connection strengthens and abundance flows to us. My family and I even say “Thank you, universe” if we find a penny in the street. After all, isn’t this part of our abundance coming in? I am grateful no matter how small the gift is, and if someone is grateful when we offer our help then we don’t think twice about offering help again.
